THIRTY students of the electromechanics technology program will soon be able to avail themselves of scholarships from the Visayan Electric Company Inc. (Veco) after it recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Center for Industrial Technology and Enterprise (Cite).

The MOA signing was held at the Veco Banilad in Cebu City.

The scholarship would cover at least 30 percent of the cost of education or an amount of P36,000 for each scholar beginning academic year 2012-2013.

The recipients of the grants will be selected within Veco’s service area.

Veco executive vice president Jaime Jose Aboitiz signed the scholarship agreement with Cite executive director Engr. Ruben Laraya.

Also present during the event were Veco community relations manager Eric Ching and Armand Simeon Millan III, Cite development office director.

Veco has been a partner of Cite in providing opportunities to the less privileged youth in the Visayas and Mindanao.

The academe-industry tie-up strengthened its joint effort to equip more deserving students with world-class technical skills.

The management of Cite said Veco’s scholarship grant has greatly helped the
institution.
